Reporting to the Head of Legal - North America, the Senior
Managing Counsel leads the work of the North America Litigation and
Supply Chain function. The Senior Manager and team are responsible
for partnering with internal clients to provide informed legal
advice on matters within recognized area(s) of expertise and
responsibility to preserve and protect the rights and interests of
the company. This role also manages outside counsel in product
liability, toxic tort, commercial, I.P., dealer and other
litigation; and counsels on, negotiates and drafts supply
agreements. This role also provides guidance and training on global
matters relating to construction, product reporting, product safety
Responsibilities Essential Functions:
Product Liability and Commercial Litigation (30%): Manages own
docket of complex commercial, I.P. and catastrophic injury
litigation. Coordinates additional litigation matters managed by
other lawyers on the team. Directs and develops strategy with
outside legal counsel during all phases of high-level, complex
litigation; advises on product-related compliance and potential
risk; develops and guides strategy in conjunction with client
Purchasing/Supply Chain (30%) : Advises, counsels, and/or
assists internal Purchasing clients in drafting and reviewing
supply agreements for direct and indirect purchasing; promptly
answers their legal questions, provides feedback and advice, and
negotiates agreements as requested.
Counseling Business (20%): Counsels internal clients on
resolving customer, supplier and commercial disputes and on product
compliance, warnings and processes; provides advice and training on
same. Coordinates with global counterparts in construction and
product safety. Advises on affirmative recovery opportunities and
manages litigation for same where appropriate.
Manages team of Legal Professionals (20%): Leads experienced,
well-functioning team of lawyers and paralegals in multiple
locations. Manages team assignments, professional development and
annual reviews. Develops policies and practices for Legal team;
negotiates AFAs and selection of outside counsel.
J.D. Degree and a current member of the appropriate State Bar or
ability to register as in-house counsel.
Minimum 15 years related Legal experience with direct experience
advising in-house business clients, independently managing all
aspects of litigation with outside counsel, and managing legal

communication skills; skilled in motivating and connecting with
geographically dispersed team and internal clients.
Extensive amount of independent thinking and clear strategic
analysis is required.
Regular and consistent attendance and ability/willingness to
respond to clients and counsel beyond regular business hours. Some
travel within North America to plants and other facilities may be
