APQP Quality Engineer

We are currently seeking a APQP Quality Engineer to bolster an already strong and talented team. In this role you will be primarily responsible for Quality activities in APQP – Quality Plan creation and management, DFMEA, PFMEA, DFM, Control Plan preparation, PPAP, DV/PV non-conformances and Customer launch preparation.  In addition, this position is also responsible for incorporating lessons learned into future designs/processes and reporting issues and/or risks to management.  This individual will be responsible for working cross functionally with Project Management, Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain, Marketing and Quality to establish, implement, maintain and continually improve our product and process quality to deliver a positive customer experience. 


What you'll be doing: 

  • Drive effective integration of our New Product Development (NPD) process with APQP activities such as FMEA’s, DFM, PPAP’s and Control Plans.
  • Coordinates quality issues internally between Engineering, Manufacturing, Project Management, Supply Chain and externally with Suppliers.
  • Responsible for Quality KPI’s tied to NPD and APQP.
  • Ensure that Supplier Key Characteristic data and PPAP artifacts are being reviewed and actioned appropriately and effectively.
  • Gap analysis of the supplier's processes and capabilities, and assistance in creating supplier development plans that close the gaps.
  • Effectively present information to the organization on the expected quality performance of new products with regards to production yields and quality concerns.
  • Lead the analysis of product failures using systematic root cause analysis, problem solving techniques, and design of experiments.
  • Drive the use of risk reduction tools such as FMEA and prototype testing at the appropriate project checkpoints during the NPD process.
  • Ensure all quality and procedure related documentation is kept current and controlled.
  • Maintain highest quality control standards in accordance with existing quality control plans.

  • Lead and drive the organization using widely accepted quality techniques such as the 8D problem solving, 5 Whys, Kaizen events, etc.
  • Demonstrate abilities to lead in problem solving/countermeasure events where quality issues are diagnosed, discussed, and resolved.


What you need for success:

  • 5+ years’ experience in a Quality or Engineering related field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a technical field such as Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering; and/or suitable work experience.
  • Practical experience of APQP and PPAP integration and deployment.
  • Experience leading the use of risk mitigation tools (DFMEA and PFMEA).
  • Experience with reviewing and interpreting technical documentation such as CAD models and schematics.
  • Demonstrate abilities to lead in problem solving/countermeasure events where quality issues are diagnosed, discussed, and resolved.
  • Practical experience and knowledge of electro-mechanical assemblies, die cast, and injection molding.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Capable of working and influencing across the organization.
  • Experience with implementation of corrective action programs such as 8D or A3.
  • Ability to leverage data systems to interpret and repot on data analysis (Excel, PowerBI, Microsoft Office Suite, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Practical experience and knowledge of printed circuit board (SMA/SMT), die cast, and injection molding.
  • Six Sigma Black or Green Belt / Certified Quality Engineer preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of SPC and DoE principles and methods.
  • LED or lighting industry experience.
