Job DescriptionPosition Purpose:Under the direction of the Recreation and Lifeguard Supervisor or designee, the position is responsible for maintaining safety and security at City of Racine pools and beaches.Essential DutiesEssential Duties:Monitors and supervises swim area activity at assigned pools and beaches.Maintains a safe swim environment, protecting swimming participants and performing emergency safety procedures if necessary.Maintains a consistent and reliable attendance record.Performs related duties as assigned. QualificationsKnowledge, Skill and Abilities Required:Lifeguard Certification.Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED/Water Front Skills certification.Successful completion of PRCS Lifeguard Qualification testing.Ability to follow oral and written instructions with minimum of direct supervision.Ability to communicate effectively, and exercise good judgment, courtesy and tact when dealing with the general public.Ability to respond to emergency situations in a calm, efficient and responsible manner.Ability to operate City vehicles in a safe, defensive, driving posture.Possess a valid Wisconsin Driver's License.Supplemental InformationPhysical Demands of the Position:Duties involve the regular, and at times sustained, performance of heavier physical tasks such as swimming for long distances in rough waters, walking/running over rough or uneven surfaces, bending, stooping, kneeling, leaping, jumping down, standing in place or continual walking, lifting and carrying of moderate to heavy items (including people) on a consistent basis.Environmental/Working Conditions of the Position:Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.Exposure to open water with variable conditions including large waves and extreme cold.Equipment Used:May be asked to operate a boat motor, two-way radio, basic tools, utility cart or small truck.Expected Work Schedule:Attend Lifeguard Orientation and required training.Thirteen (13) week swim season from the first weekend in June through Labor Day weekend.Average work week: 40 hours.Rates of Pay per Hour*:$15.82Please note that work schedules, times, rates of pay may be subject to change.
